Charles Asselineau (March 13, 1820 in Paris – July 25, 1874 in Châtelguyon) was a French man of letters, writer, and art critic. He was among Charles Baudelaire's few loyal friends. He met Baudelaire in 1845 and became a close friend. He supported Baudelaire upon the publication of Les Fleurs du Mal in 1857, and in 1868, he and Banville published a third edition of the work, as Baudelaire's mother, Caroline Aupick, had entrusted them with the task of editing her son's Complete Works . In 1869, he wrote the first biography of Baudelaire: Charles Baudelaire, sa vie et son œuvre (Charles Baudelaire, His Life and Work ). ( Wikipedia )
