Cees Bantzinger (1914-1985) was a Dutch draftsman and painter. After completing a two-year seminary course, he left for Amsterdam in 1932 to study at the Institute for Applied Arts (now the Gerrit Rietveld Academy). In 1936-37, Bantzinger debuted as an illustrator in the weekly magazine De Groene Amsterdammer and was one of the well-known illustrators for daily and weekend newspapers. In the early years of the occupation, Bantzinger wrote letters to the National Socialist Department of Public Information and Arts in which he attempted to secure commissions for artworks. In a postscript, he mentioned an NSB membership number. While researching for his book "De kunsthandel in Nederland 1940-1945," Adriaan Venema came across Bantzinger's aforementioned NSB membership number. Bantzinger confirmed to Venema by telephone that it was indeed him and committed suicide a week later. ( Wikipedia )
