André Collot (1897-1976) was a French painter, engraver, and illustrator. Prolific, he was recognized for his illustrations of risqué and erotic books by Pascal Pia as early as 1931. He exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants in 1942 and 1943. Before and after the Second World War, he produced a large number of illustrations (etchings, glass engravings, wood engravings), sometimes for undated and clandestinely published works. Boaters and lovers of maritime literature remember him as a friend and crew member of the writer Jacques Perret, whose books he illustrated in many ways. In 1964, he also published, under his own name and with a preface by Jacques Perret, a small booklet of advice for boaters: "Les Tuyaux du Matelot" (published by Plaisance in Paimbeuf), the seriousness of the advice being enhanced by the humor of his drawings.
