Henry-Louis Mermod (the publisher) was the son of Franziska Bender and Louis-Philippe Mermod, a manufacturer of watches, music boxes, and lace. He grew up in a cultured industrial environment. Trained as a lawyer, he first founded the Société pour l'industrie des métaux (Society for the Metal Industry) in Lausanne with two of his brothers. Then, it is said that after meeting the Swiss writer Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz, he decided to found his own publishing house in 1926. In 1942, as a tribute to France, he created the "Bouquet" collection, in which 73 volumes were published, the last of which, La Promenade sous les arbres de Jaccottet (1961), heralded new directions. A patron of the arts, collector, and dandy, Henry-Louis Mermod made his home a meeting place for Swiss and French writers and painters, as well as a venue for parties. ( Wikipedia )
