Arnaud d'Hauterives , born in 1933, is a French painter and member of the Institut de France. In 1955, he entered the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, studying painting under Legueult and engraving under Goerg. He won the Prix de Rome in 1957. His travels introduced him to the sea, which features prominently in his work, and in 1981 he became an official painter of the French Navy. He has exhibited worldwide: in Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Johannesburg, Germany, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, and, of course, France. His work is held in numerous French and international museums. Elected to the painting section of the Académie des Beaux-Arts on June 13, 1984, succeeding Jean Souverbie, he served as President of the Academy in 1987, 1991, and 1996, the year he was elected Permanent Secretary.
