Mario Labocetta, The Flowers of Evil, Paris, 1959, Gründ Bookstore
Illustr.: 7 full page “stencil” watercolors (cover included).
Mario Laboccetta was an Italian illustrator and painter who gained some renown illustrating risqué and cabaret magazines in Paris during the Roaring Twenties (for example, Paris Plaisir in 1929). He also illustrated about fifteen books published during the same period in what were called "semi-precious" collections, using watercolors. His works, the most remarkable of which is the illustration he created for Hoffmann's Tales, published by H. Piazza, are either anonymous or signed with his name, though the spelling varies over time. After returning to Italy, he produced some new book illustrations and advertising posters in his country following the Second World War. ( internet )
