Félicien Rops (1833-1898) was a Belgian artist, painter, draftsman, illustrator, etcher, and engraver, born in Namur on July 7, 1833, and died in Essonnes (now Corbeil-Essonnes) on August 23, 1898. He was the only son of industrialist Nicolas-Joseph Rops (1782-1849) and Sophie Maubille (1794-1872). His father produced and sold printed fabrics. In 1837, when young Félicien was four years old, the family left the Old Namur district where he was born and moved into a townhouse his father had built in another part of the city, more befitting their status as a wealthy bourgeois family…(see more: Wikipedia )
